Pretty good for practice , but BEWARE...

*.You CAN NOT EDIT PARAMETERS OF COMPRESSOR AND TUBE DRIVE. This pedal is not supported by TonePrint.

What you can do, is to load presets created by TC Electronic and featured artist.
There are tons of them for you to load (Using the TonePrint App Library section) one by one til you find something that suits your taste. (I Totally hate that).

On his own:
is a great pedal for practicing.
As a little travel unit (As long as you have an electric socket to plug it) or use as a preamp direct box.
Would I buy it again.... No. But it's OK

Not the quality I expect from TC

I chose the SpectraDrive over the similarly priced EHX Battalion because I liked the idea of TC's 3-band SpectraComp compressor. However, I was very disappointed with the unit. The default compression and overdrive are fairly useless. Also, you can't use the compressor without also engaging the full preamp section. Neither can you use the drive alone. The Battalion allows both to be used independently of the preamp tone controls.

The other issue, and the reason I had to return the unit, was the the TonePrint system simply did not work. The unit refused to accept new patches either from my phone or my computer. This just made me realize that I don't want a digital unit. Too many complications.

I decided to instead buy the Ampeg OptiComp and a TC MojoMojo overdrive, both of which are analog. I already have a SansAmp. But I also tried the Battalion at a local store and it sounds nice and is all analog. If I wanted the EQ section or DI, I would buy it.

Pros:
The range of sounds is amazing. It's managed to make my bass sound cleaner, more powerful and fuller than ever with a simple teak of the EQ.
The Compression options are basically a dial controlled by the tone print (see cons)
The drive adds a nice bit of grit (see cons)
Built like a tank.
Reliable

Cons:
The Toneprint beaming can be ropey.
Can be noisey
TC Electronics Toneprint app doesn't allow for customization of tone prints for this unit so you're stuck with the presets on the app.

If they allowed deep editing to refine the patches/ templates then this would be a 5 star across the board.
As it stands 4.5

This is a very flexible comp (not editable thought) + dirt box + nice shaping options included. You really cannot beat this price/performance for all the goodies that come in this stomp box. Excellent little bass helper!
