After reading so many great reviews about the Tannoy Gold 8 speakers, I decided to buy them. When I unboxed them, I had a 'Wow' moment! The build quality is impressive—massive and beautiful! They look like they cost four times the price. But then there's the sound... The midrange is very good, the highs are just okay, though it feels like the frequencies drop off after 16 kHz,with a white noise! The bass! however, is almost non-existent, so weak! I couldn't hear anything below 50Hz. The worst part is the sound limiter. These speakers are advertised as having a 300-watt amplifier and should reach up to 110 dB, but I could only get a maximum of 85 dB before the red light came on. Five seconds later, the volume was automatically cut in half. It feels like the amplifier gets warm and fatigued quickly. In conclusion, I'll stick with my Yamaha HS8 speakers. The Tannoys are being returned. I don't want to sound too harsh, but they feel like cheap speakers in a luxurious, heavy box. I can't recommend them, sorry.
