I was looking around for a piano feel midi keyboard, over a long time. For both Live and Studio use.
I first got the Roland A-88. Which was good. Had a nice feel.
However, the roland keys are a bit oversized ( for some reason ), a bit heavy and the ''escapement action'' is a bit dull.
So I sent it back and got the Studio Logic SL Grand instead.
The SL Grand is just fantastic. Has normal sized keys with a superior performance action. They use Fatar's top of the line TP40Wood - real wooden keys with Ivory feel and aftertouch. Lighter and faster than the Roland.
The three joystick controllers really enhances both live and studio performance for me. Gives me fast and easy control over anything from external midi instruments to computer DAW's and Velocity input etc.
Unboxed the SL Grand comes with three default velocity curves ( just like the Roland A-88 ) which work great. However, with the SL Editor you can easily create and adjust your own velocity curves, and save them in memory banks. The SL Editor is a very smart tool that gives you complete control over many functions. Comes with the purchase.
I can strongly recommend the SL Grand for both Studio and Live performances !
