I have had it on my bass drum for a few days now, so these are kind of first impressions.
I use it with a thin felt strip about 1/3 in from the edge. The batter head is pre-muffled with a dampening ring around the inside edge. I use no additional muffling and the drum sounds big and powerful! I have the heads tuned a little higher for more tone. The beater rebounds more with a full head.
Uppdate: I played the kit in a big barn with high ceiling, and my kit really came alive. Bass drum batter was changed to coated ambassador with felt strip, and the reso side was this ebony with no muffling at all. It was a full, nice sound and I really enjoyed it!
Today I suppose most use a ported redo head, but if you haven’t tried a full head you may want to do so. These heads are cheap enough, and you can always cut a hole if you don’t like it.
