Firstly
Remember
This is a budget line in the different categories of Paiste cymbals
This colorsound looks lovely
It’s a gimmick (remember) designed in the 80’s to look good on tv/ music videos
It was not designed to improve or make a cymbal any better soundwise
I bought this as I have always fancied owning a color sound and decided on the 16’’ crash in a lovely shade of red
The cymbal is not for a jazz player or light hitter
In fact it sounds a bit cheap and nasty when played like this
When it is crashed (as most crash cymbals should be) it has a nice high pitched tone with a quick decay due to the color (colour in my country) being added to the B8 alloy
It’s not that differently in pitch to a 16’’ 2002
But as I say, it decays a lot quicker
Doesn’t sound good hit gently and doesn’t have the shimmer and bright sparkle of a 2002
It’s also nearly half the price of a 2002
I like this cymbal
I hit hard and I have it placed around by the floor tom and it acts as a kind of loud giant splash when I use it for accents etc
I use mainly Giant Beat cymbals so this was a gamble whether it would fit in
For my purposes it does
It still has that paiste quality
and a bright cutting sound when struck hard
If you are thinking of buying a colorsound remember one thing
It’s not for subtle nuances in the music unless you are playing with felt beaters
Buy one
Play it hard
Enjoy looking at the lovely color
(Colour) of it
Thanks for reading
This review is not in any way affiliated with Paiste or Thomann
I live in the north east of England and have played drums for many years
Paiste is my preferred brand of cymbal and has been for over 35 years
