For bass trombone I like the plug-in buckets better than the clip-ons; they're easier and faster in attaching and removing.
This is exactly the mute I need, with some heft to it and a distinguishable and reliable threshold, though light, to push it into buzzing and resounding. The resistance and sound is easily adjusted by removing the wadding inside the mute as desired, or maybe change entirley to another type - if there is/are any.
For me, this is an easily played mute with consistent and reliable traits and characteristics, the only things to be aware of is that it has some weight and has a slight threshold to push before one gets it going. The material doesn't feel delicate but one has to be careful both with the bell and the mute to not cause dings and dents - whereas some dents on the mute could maybe change its characteristics in a desired way.
For me, the metal construction of this mute is great, with a good balance of playability, adaptability, great sound, durability and, with the plug-in construction, ease of handling. You may have to file the cork on the mute a little to make it fit perfectly, but I have no problems using it with both a 9.5" or a 9.85" bell.
I'd very much recommend it.
