I decided to upgrade from the stock Remo (Chinese made ones) heads on my Ludwig drumkit. The new heads made the biggest difference on the toms in my opinion. My floor tom now has a really nice growl to it, with easily controlled overtones, and the drum seemed easier to tune than before the change. I do add one piece of moongel to dampen a little, especially for recording, but it sings beatifully with no damping as well.
As I've only had the head for a few weeks, I think it's too early to evaluate durability of the head yet. So far it holds up just fine.
