Fantastic Buy!
Anonym 04.08.2014
As a professional saxophonist of with over forty years playing experience I couldn't resist purchasing this sopranino just to see what it was like. I currently play on a Buffet Prestige Copper-body Alto, Selmer Balanced Action Tenor, Yanagisawa Sop and Bari and have owned Selmer MK6s,Conns, Yamahas etc. over the years. I have only ever played on Selmer Sopraninos and found them to have 'wild' intonation and not to speak well in the highest register.
What a revelation this little Thomann instrument was. Straight from the case, and with the mouthpiece and reed provided, it sang from top to bottom. It was easy to control the intonation and to produce a rich and full tone. The key action is smooth and fast..... what more can I say except what a bargain this is.
Down points, well only that the finish, although well plated and looking great with the red-brass body, is a little rough in places on the side keys but I play the thing and don't just look at it so.....
Warning! Just because this instrument is small doesn't mean that it's good for children to learn on. Sopraninos are very difficult to play in tune and to produce a good sound on. A highly developed embouchure is required and a good ear. Without these things you might wish you'd bought your child a violin, it would be less painful to the ear!

Very happy with it! Very good value for money
David1237 15.03.2024
I bought the Thomann TSI-350 Sopranino Saxophone on the strength of the previous positive reviews and am very glad to be able to report back that it really is excellent value for money and 'good enough' regardless of you playing ability and the other saxophones in your collection. I have a collection of Selmer Paris SA80ii / Yamaha YTS-475 ii / P Mauriat Le Bravo / Conn-Selmer etc so I am used to good quality instruments, but didn't want to spend too much on a Sopranino because I primarily bought it as a travel saxophone and to play in outdoor tunnels under roads and other strange places in remote locations away from people that have good acoustics that I have found whilst on bike rides or out walking, so I wanted something light and cheap ish but of still good enough quality that I would want to play it and record these free improv sessions, and am pleased to say that this Sopranino fits the bill perfectly. It is a really nice size and weight and feels really good quality for the money. I bought the Selmer SA80 c* mouthpiece and a range of reeds at the same time, and just wanted to point out that the tuning is very sensitive to the position of the tiny mouthpiece on the neck - so watch out for that - pushing the mouthpiece in or out adjusts the centre note which determines if your lower and higher notes are sharp or flat. I thought initially that there was a tuning issue, but there wasn't once I adjusted how far pushed onto the neck the mouthpiece was. Yes, of course, you have to adjust your embouchure when playing, it is not perfect, but it is not bad at all. The sound is really rather nice, not shrill or thin! It can play quietly which is excellent for 'noodling' on around the house because it is so cute and tiny it's nice to have around you. It is not a toy or a cheap Chinese made waste of money though, it is a decent enough instrument to last you unless you are intending to play Sopranino as a specialist, and I add my voice to the many others who would recommend this one. I am very pleased with it. The case is excellent too - lightweight, has plenty of space for things and can be carried in multiple ways making it perfect to travel with which is what I wanted. You can play the Sopranino quietly enough to take to a hotel room to get some practice in whilst on holiday and it is small and light enough to not be a problem carrying it as an additional 'handbag' type of baggage. The only minor annoyance is that the Selmer SA80 c* mouthpiece comes with a Selmer teeth guard pad which is too big for the Sopranino mouthpiece, so the sides protrude which is annoying considering how expensive the mouthpiece is and how cheap a teeth guard is by comparison - you would expect Selmer to have checked that already. So I had to trim it down with scissors and it isn't perfect which is a bit annoying, but apart from that, I am very happy with the purchase and would thoroughly recommend it.

Surprisingly, wonderfully easy to play.
Anonym 16.12.2015
Having played mostly soprano for a couple of years I was tempted by the cuteness of this little Eb instrument as a Bb Soprillo was well out of my budget. It was so easy to play straight out of the case on the supplied mouthpiece and reed. With a Vandoren Classic 2 reed it improved again. I found low notes very easy to get and the tuning surprisingly good throughout the range. It was going to be a novelty instrument for me, but the way it actually plays means it will get some serious use too. The finish, as stated in the other reviews, is not perfect but this does in no way detract from the playability. Quite frankly it is such a fun instrument to play and so nimble on the fingerings I'm hooked!

I'm so glad I decided to risk it, thanks Thomann another very satisfied customer!

Amazingly good!
AlistairG 15.12.2015
I unwrapped this tonight 5 minutes before I played for an dance practice for 2 hours, mostly solo and on the new instrument, so these are immediate thoughts and I was astonished at how well it plays.
I have played a Yanagisawa Soprano for 30 yrs [and tenor] so am comfortable playing the top end and I was really pleased with the ease of forming the notes, the intonation [I played a couple of sets with a clarinet and whilst I will get better, it was very close] and generally the build quality. The case is also very good quality.
With the supplied mouthpiece I am sure I can make it quite mellow [I used a Vandoren Classic Blue 2 reed but I will get some harder as I feel I will blow these out quickly].
The plating doesn't look like it will last that long and there are some blemishes on the finish but unless you look really closely, for the price, who cares!
Important [like the other review I read before buying] - this isn't a beginners instrument.
Customer service niggle - my credit for my last review ran out before I bought this - I didn't know there was a date on them. But never mind - if you fancy playing at the top end of the saxophone there is no reason not to buy this instrument.......

Cheap and Lovely! Buy one
DavePanther 12.12.2018
The interweb will find you reviews of various Sopranino saxes and the problems with them. Using those I checked my new purchase very carefully. Looking very closely you can see slight machine marks, and the cork pads that the various keys rest on so they don't mar the body are not 100% aligned and beautiful but they most certainly do the job. The keys and how they are mounted are solid, none of the looseness you can find in reviews on the interweb.

The thing is tiny so it really does take more love and care than we have paid for to get an instrument without small imperfections.

Intonation is good, no need to buy a new mouthpiece just to get the thing to intonate. I was pleased by that, the 'quality' mouthpieces are damned expensive!

Sound? Happy so far and it really is a fun thing to play. Overblowing and bending notes is serious fun, the downside to that is some practice on long steady notes will be needed! But you knew that about a Sopranino anyway didn't you?

Very happy with my choice and I just hope the 'bug' doesn't bite to the extent I have to pay 10 times more for a Yanigasawa or Selmer...

Great for the price!
Anonym 25.04.2016
Don't be mislead by the 4-star ratings, if there was a category for "Value" this would definitely be a 5! In doing a side by side comparison with another relatively-cheap sopranino, this was not quite as refined, but then you keep in mind it was 1/3 of the price!

I purchased this in hopes to lend out to my students, and I think it will be perfect for that. It may not compare to the Yanagisawa or selmer sopraninos, but it is more than playable and will get the job done.

I was also weary of shipping an instrument from Europe to the USA, but the packaging was excellent. The instrument arrived unharmed and completely playable out of the box.

Fun and satisfying to play
MJS745 31.12.2024
Really couldn’t afford to buy a top of the ( rather limited) ranges soprano for what to most purposes is a novelty instrument BUT having read the other reviews and with big T’s refund policy through I’d go for this instrument.

So pleased I did! Let’s be honest it’s a budget priced instrument, but, it definitely “punches about its weight” , “ gives some bang for its buck” to use those over-used cliches. Straight out of the case put a vandoren reed on and blew. What a pleasant surprise, easy to blow-it was responsive and in tune-and comfortable to play, the LH table very easy to adjust to.

To sum up, I’m really pleased I got this, a pleasure to play and I can see where it will fit into my band and saxophone group work quite easily- but most importantly fun to play.

Goodness knows what it will be like with a non stock mouthpiece, but I’m saving up for one now.

For its price this is a good instrument-my instrument finish is good, no blemishes in the lacquer, the keywork seems solid, pads close well ( tested with leak light). I would suggest buying a swab to clean to instrument but don’t use a silk one, it snags on the octave key.

Almost bought as a bit of a joke, this economy sopranino is shockingly high quality. Despite slight manufacturing quality issues, such as visible, rough solder on some of the key work, the actual instrument functions perfectly and is surprisingly well in tune. On a level beyond cosmetics, to me it is hard to tell much difference between this instrument and a high instrument like a selmer or yanagisawa. If you just want an instrument to play with, this more than does the job.

Surprisingly excellent 👏🏼!
RegiOliver 31.10.2022
This is a great instrument and a great value for the money. However, you will have to spend another $400 on a decent sopranino mouthpiece. I was about to write a scathing review and return the instrument, but the Vandoren mouthpiece I purchased arrived and it was the 'game changer'.
You can't get a true reference on the instrument using the included 'inferior' mouthpiece. Otherwise, this is an excellent instrument at an awesome price! I've been an International Touring Musician for over 30 years and I've been observing the development of modern saxophones and technologies. This sopranino is a product of innovation and evolution. I can't wait for my Bass saxophone to arrive. If it's anything like the sopranino, I'll be a 'happy camper'!!!

Wonderful Instrument
RobertG777 26.02.2024
I am a fanatic for saxophones; all the weird and lesser known members are so interesting to me. I've owned the main quartet for a while and I wanted to expand the range, so I decided to go with the sopranino. After lots of time thinking about all the different brands, I went with Thomann because of the price and good reviews. After having this instrument for almost a year I can say with certainty that this is a shockingly well-crafted instrument. The build quality was better than I expected; even with international shipping it functioned perfectly right out of the box. Intonation across the range is once again shockingly consistent, although octave G and G# have a little trouble speaking for me at first, but with time working my embouchure and a new mouthpiece I've resolved that issue. I would definitely recommend this horn if you're looking to dip your feet into playing the sopranino, it's a lot of fun and this model makes it easy to get a feel for this range in the saxophone family.
