I bought this and a cheaper (copycat) version, to basically kickstart my home studio project after getting a good 12+ years older, stupider and fatter whilst not actively making music. I'm only in the early phases with said "project", but it's safe to say this mic will never let me down. Period/end too long review. Such clarity and just beeeeautifully quiet. I just lack superlatives here; IF you're planning to record any music ANYWHERE, I'd say start here. You will not regret going Shure, for sure! (I know, I only do terrible jokes..)
I have done a whole 20 year "career" in mostly loud and obscure music, back in the day. I did not record or produce myself in the olden days (except by sitting on studio couches yelling "guitars need to be louder" a lot) but... y'know, you'll still learn a lot by recording full albums and smaller releases, touring, and all that jazz. Shure was a name I first met decades ago. Knew a lot of professionals, who all seemed to swear by it. Now, later in life, I can just thank each and every "studio dude" or "punk club mixing dude" and their ilk, that I ever met in my life!
I'm using mine mostly to record guitars of all kinds, both played thru my tiny Orange amp, or just direct recording acoustic guitars. I have recorded simple percussions on it; hand claps never sounded so good. Now, I know th'57 is not a vocals mic, but my tests produce "demo level" quality even there. Great for whispers, mind you! :D (got a Rode mic for "singing for realsees", mind you..)
TL;DR
If you're looking to buy JUST ONE MIC for almost any purpose, seriously look no further! Sonic joy guaranteed.
