I simply swear by Pyramid's flat wound strings! I've used various different makes of flat wound strings over the years for jazz, blues and rock & roll, and none have really totally nailed the sound and I feel I was after. Then I tried a set of Pyramid strings and that was it! I use them for all styles of music and they give me that great jazz tone on an archtop guitar and deep twang on a Telecaster or Gretsch. The advantage of these Medium/Heavy set is that you can really dig in on the bottom strings and the tone is just amazing. I'm now a total Pyramid fan :)
First class, worth the money, beautiful tone, depth, harmonics and balance. I use this on the custom strat (56) I have set up for fifties and also early sixties tone. It delivers exactly what I was after, a fifties strat.
I bought these strings for my old archtop and i have to say that i am highly satisfied with the tone of the guitar. It really brings a vintage 50-60s vibe. Perfect for playing jazz, with a boomy bass sound and mid-range warmth. I love them!
Like the sound of strings. You put them on and you are good to go.. Maybe you are paying little more extra money but you get little more extra quality.
First of all Pat martino where using them before he switched to GHS.. buy 10 packs to store in your closet... They are amazing strings !! Best string in the market in my opinion!!
Also! Note that the fourth string usually Breaks after 6 months of heavy playing... An u will need to change the 012 & 015 soon depending of you sweat toxicity... The 033 043 052 will last for a approximately a year before they lose Intonation!!
So be sure to get some replacement single stings for the tops! And you are done for thinking about strings for years ;)
I use Thomastik and wanted to try something different. Compared to Thomastik these Pyramids sounded lifeless and felt very hard to play, although they were the same thickness.
On Gibson scale guitars, these are great. I use them on an ES175 having swapped from Thomastiks. Both are excellent choices, it comes down to personal preference.
Not the best, but pretty well good for me. The sound is good for me too, almost the sound I want. The longevity of sound and phisical reliability is also good. I change my strings about 3 or 4 gigs and use mostly Jaz style (almost acoustic) guitars, so acoustic sound too is important, depending on audience size.
These medium range strings do the trick for me.
