Being a Line6 user, I had pretty much given up on ever finding any solution to the problem they created when they insisted on using an RJ45 data cable - normally for indoors use between delicately handled computer stuff - to connect a guitar amp and its floor controller in the rugged and sometimes outdoors environ ment of gigging. But lo and behold, not only was there this one, heavy-duty enough to seemingly be able to double as a tow cable for mid-sized oil tankers, but there was also Ethercon, this brilliant way of putting the normally flimsy RJ45 connector into XLR-style locking ones. And to add to the brilliance, a quick twist turns the Ethercon connector into an ordinary RJ45, for the hardware you don't want to mod.
Well, almost.
What took off one star from the overall impression, sadly enough, was the fact that they hadn't included the normal snap lock on the RJ45 connectors. Meaning, if you take off the Ethercon ring and plug it into an ordinary RJ45, it'll very easily pop out, which you definitely do not want to see happening with digital equipment and certainly not during a gig.
A very strange lapse of reason indeed, which I hope is only momentary.
