Harley Benton MV-4P Black

I've been playing bass for decades; somehow I've manage to end up with 19 of the things so I know my way around the instrument and I cannot rate and recommend this instrument too highly.

Straight out of the box, amazingly it wasn't too far out of tune, I plugged it in to my vintage Trace Elliot 4x10 (flat eq) and sat and played for an hour.
First impressions?
• Incredible sustain (strung with D'Addario from the factory, my favourite brand)
• very sweet tone in the high register
• balanced tone over the entire neck, no dull notes at all
• perfect finish
• perfect fit between neck and neck pocket

A couple of days later when I had a bit more time I adjusted the action which was high - maybe this is a policy from the factory to allow the user to set it up to suite personal preference - the profile of the strings was fine, all I had to do was turn each saddle grub screw two whole turns (Allen key, truss rod adjuster and lead included in the box) and that was it, job done. As to the intonation, it was spot on except the E string which was a little flat.
I've since had more time to explore sounds and I've been able to easily dial in the two main Precision sounds I wanted to achieve which is the smooth 60's sound (tone pot rolled back about half way plus 3db at 100 Hz and 2.6 Khz on the amp) and the growling rock sound which I achieved with a valve pre-amp.

All in all if you're in search of any classic Precision bass sound on a budget I can't think of any reasons to not consider this range, really highly recommended.

This is a work of art. The color is perfect, the hardware is better than $1000 instruments, the pickups are decent and the playability is very good.

- Neck is straight out of the box, easy to adjust
- Frets are polished, nicely done, smooth, no edged, and visually equal, with no paint on them
- Top dots are precise and nice-looking
- Neck joint is perfect
- Overall Weight is normal
- Tuners are smooth, easy to turn and precise
The bridge is solid, with brass saddles and the intonation was spot on right out of the box
- Pickups are nice and you can gig with them but there are better out there ( I think this is where you can put some money in the future )

Overall great instrument right out of the box.
