Why is the attachment round instead of hexagonal?

While the product is built with sturdy metal and the design is very practical, this product did not work for me. It attaches to a clamp by a round insert, instead of the standard hexagonal shape. I cannot understand this design choice, because it would have been more secure with a hexagonal shape. It only has a little flattened area on top of the round insert, and this makes the little screw on your clamp the only point of stability, which is not enough to hold any weight. I found this product to be dysfunctional, because of the round insert. It either dropped down because the screw couldn't hold the weight (even without any lamps attached), or it got stuck in the clamp if I'd screw it in too tightly. With a hexagonal shape it would have been perfect, and I had high hopes because the design is otherwise very practical.
